Finest quality intense green color emeralds
La Pita Mine is known for the finest quality intense green color emeralds. It lies between Muzo and Cosquez in the Maripi mining district of the Boyaca Department along the aptly named Rio Minero(translates to Mining River).
This mine is thought to contain one of the largest emerald deposits in Colombia and has become arguably the most commercially important emerald mine currently being exploited in Colombia, accounting for 30 to 55 percent of the annual Colombian emerald production. In recent years production has been drastically high.

Colombia produces 55 % of the Worlds Emerald Supply. There are four main Emerald Mining Areas, La Pita, Cosquez, Chivor and Muzo. Each mine produces some fine quality emeralds, but the La Pita Mine produces what are regarded as some of the finest emeralds in the world because they are the darkest in color. The vast majority of the commercially available emeralds come from La Pita.
